I am very impressed with Shopmium

I have used TopCashBack Snap for a few years but they have decided to suspend it. I have therefore decided to give Shopmium a try.

What is Shopmium?

Just like TopCashBack and Quidco there are two sides to Shopmium. There is the side were you look to see if you can get cash back before you buy online and the side were you look after you have bought in a shop.

As I said, I have decided to give Shopmium a try because TopCashBack have suspended Snap and Save. So far I have only used the equivalent of Snap and Save so this review only relates to that side of their operation. I am impressed with the in-store cash back so I intend to try the buy online side of things as well.

Before this type of app, to get discounts, we used to cut adverts from newspapers. Now we can keep the adverts on our phones.

Shopmium In-store is a very simple concept. Download the free Shopmium app on your iPhone or Android smartphone. On the app:
  1. Look to see what offers are available - these change so it is worth regularly looking.
  2. Find which shops have the product that you want.
  3. Buy the product.
  4. Upload a photo of the receipt and scan the barcode of the product.
Shopmium say that the money will be paid in your PayPal account within 3 days or transferred to your bank within 7 days. Payment from my first purchase was paid into my PayPal account the same day.

Some shops are now asking if you want your receipt. Make sure that you get it otherwise you will not be able to photograph it and therefore get the money back.
If you check the app before you go shopping you can decide which supermarket will give you the best deal. You can decide to buy an alternative brand that is going to earn you cashback. You can also decide to give new products to try at a discounted price or even FREE!

Other cashback apps require a minimum amount to be in your account before they pay out. This is not the case with Shopmium. If you are to get 50p back from a loaf of bread then you will get 50p paid into your account. You don’t even have to cash out. It is sent automatically.

Not all of the offers in Shopmium are the same. Some are money off, e.g. £1.50 off Nescafé coffee; some are Buy One Get One Free; some new products can be 100% cash back so that you can give them a try.
Offers are available at:
  1. Tesco;
  2. Asda;
  3. Morrisons;
  4. Sainsbury's;
  5. Co-op; and
  6. Waitrose,
but not all offers are available at all stores.

Shopmium has been around for a while in other countries but it is now trying to expand in the UK. It is therefore offering freebies to people who sign up to them. If you download the Shopmium app and enter my referral code ty2i5n, or sign up at https://www.shopmium.com/uk/referral/ty2i5n, it will give me £3 and give you a freebie. When I signed up, I received a free 500ml tub of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream but the freebie changes from time to time. Currently (11 February 2021) it is a tube of Pringles Crisps. I am not just recommending Shopmium to get the £3, I have been impressed by them.

Why am I so impressed?

I downloaded the Shopmium app from Apple AppStore (it is also available from Google Play). I joined Shopmium at 12:47 pm on 30 April. At 12:52 I was emailed informing me that joining entitled me to a free 500ml Ben & Jerrys tub of ice cream worth between £4 and £6. I bought a tub that afternoon for £4.20. At 4:07pm I uploaded the receipt and scanned the barcode. At 5:12 I received an email from PayPal saying £4.20 had been paid into my account. Within 5 hours of signing up to Shopmium I received £4.20 cashback. Fantastic. I have never had service like this from TopCashBack or Quidco. Shopmium’s claim process is very quick and easy to use.
