Everyone should visit it at least once. I have visited twice in the last two years.  Photographs do not do it justice. You have to be there to appreciate the scale and the beauty of the stone and the setting. Stonehenge is a man made circle of huge stones built on the Salisbury Plain. Anything more than that is speculation. It is believed that it was started over 5,000 years ago and took about 1,000 years to build. How was it built?  Nobody knows. 5,000 years ago, how could people move such large stones over such a distance.  Why was it built?  Nobody knows.
