Holiday Inn Birmingham - Bromsgrove
When I am looking for a hotel, I usually look for a Holiday Inn Express. If there are none in the area then I go for a Holiday Inn. The difference between the two is that Holiday Inn Express is usually cheaper and the breakfast is usually included in the price. Holiday Inn usually includes a gym and/or a swimming pool. I would probably use the gym if I was staying for more than one night but when I stay in a hotel it is usually just to break a journey.
On a recent trip I stayed over night at the Holiday Inn at Bromsgrove, Birmingham. There was a Holiday Inn Express close by but this was a rare occasion when the Holiday Inn was cheaper. I booked through booking.com.
The Holiday Inn website says that the hotel is modern. Judging by the decay in the window frames it looks to me like it has been refurbished rather than it being a modern hotel. The refurbishment, with the exception of the window frames, is to a high standard.
We had room 303. The room size was ok. I have had larger and also smaller hotel rooms. On entering the room, the first thing that I noticed was the noise from the road outside. I wasn't too impressed until I closed the double glazing and the road noise disappeared. Although the external window frames need replacing, the internal double glazing was great.
The room had a fan in addition to the air conditioning. We did not need either so I am not sure if the air conditioning was actually working and the fan may have just been a replacement. The room also had a fridge and a television. The shower is a walk in shower with plenty if space. The room was decorated to a high standard and, as you would expect from Holiday Inn, was very clean.
The eat as much as you can buffet breakfast was excellent in a very pleasant restaurant. The serve yourself area looks like a kitchen in a large house.
The bar is a very pleasant and relaxing area.
The Wi-Fi is free and was good throughout the hotel.
The Bromsgrove Holiday Inn has a gym, heated pool, spa, sauna, and a steam room, but I only saw saw the gym and pool. The gym looked good and had a lot of equipment. The pool, however, looked quite small.
I only stayed at the hotel as a stop over so did not see any of the surrounding area. The Black Country Living Museum is fairly close. I visited it many years ago and it was well worth the visit. The Cadbury World chocolate factory sounds like a great place to go but I have never been. Other places in the area that I have never been to include the eighteenth century Hanbury Hall and gardens (sounds good), and the Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings (doesn't sound so good but I may be wrong).
