Now fundraisers for the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital saw a road race as a means to raise funds and so organised the first Mersey Marathon. It was to be run on 24 September 1982. Reading, especially away from school, should be fun. Children will read more if they are enjoying what they are reading. That is what the Summer Reading Challenge is all about.
